As Undertaker and Big Show wrestled in an impromptu Punjabi Prison match the fans were treated to a slow match in a strange match. No matter the outcome this will easily be the best Punjabi Prison match, but that is not saying much. The second incarnation of the Punjabi Prison match was nothing special but it did tell a simple story. Their feud was set to culminate in the first ever Punjabi Prison match in July at The Great American Bash. The rules may sound over the top and ridiculous but they are not as absurd as the circumstances that led the first Punjabi Prison match.




So when were those previous instances of Punjabi Prison matches? It has now been almost 10 years since a Punjabi Prison match was held. Another Punjabi Prison match took place the following year at No Mercy on October 7th, 2007. Really, the Punjabi Prison match isn't all that different in function from a steel cage match, other than there being two cages to escape rather than one. Tonight at WWE Battleground, Randy Orton will face Jinder Mahal in a Punjabi Prison match.

Believe it or not, Great Khali did not work the first Punjabi Prison match. For instance, the only thing I remember about WWE's Punjabi Prison matches is that I felt they were both terrible. Coming up on Saturday, Great Khali makes his Punjabi Prison match debut against Batista. Let's start with the first ever Punjabi Prison match today and I will be back tomorrow with a rundown of the second version of the match. JBL tried to sell the idea that Taker's career could be buried forever inside Punjabi Prison.
