Sadly, not every edition has managed to live up to the buzz. WWE will go all out to try to make the 2017 edition avoid the same fate as these five shows, which, for a variety of reasons, haven't quite managed to go off with a bang.

Needless to say, there have been more critically acclaimed SummerSlam matches than those that fell flat, but the matches that have lived on in infamy are truly terrible. Next to WrestleMania, SummerSlam is WWE's second biggest event of the year and has been since its inception in 1988. Here's hoping nothing on this year's SummerSlam card comes close to being as bad as the following flops, which have earned the right to be called the worst matches in the history of the biggest party of the summer. Nothing from the last decade or so has been entirely atrocious, but the same can not be said for the early installments of the event.
